In this video, I present my interpretation of "Ständchen" by Franz Schubert, in a beautiful solo guitar arrangement by Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806–1856). This arrangement was published in Vienna probably in 1845 in a collection with other Schubert´s songs (Mertz’s 6 Schubert’sche Lieder) by the firm Tobias Haslinger’s Witwe & Sohn. The piece showcases the lyrical elegance of Schubert’s melody combined with the harmonic richness and virtuosic idiom of Mertz’s guitar writing.
